Ron Rivera explains why they cut Josh Norman

The Carolina Panthers surprisingly removed their franchise tag off of top cornerback Josh Norman and cut him just about a month ago. This allowed him to sign with the Washington Redskins, which left everyone scratching their heads.

Head coach Ron Rivera recently sat down with Monday Morning Quarterback’s Jenny Vrentas for an interview. He explained the team’s decision to cut him and it still left many just as, if not even more, confused as before.

We were at an impasse,” Rivera said. “Things weren’t happening, and the one thing we didn’t want to do is go into training camp not knowing. I think that was part of the decision.”

This is certainly a pretty confusing situation for the Panthers and it has left them without arguably one of the best defensive backs in the NFL today. It will be interesting to see what Norman does when he meets up with his former team on December 19.

During his four years with the Panthers, Josh Norman recorded 141 tackles, 38 pass deflections and seven interceptions, four of which came during the 2015 season.
