Ronnie Hillman’s talks with Denver Broncos ‘heating up’

Talks between the Denver Broncos and running back Ronnie Hillman are “heating up,” according to Denver NBC affiliate KUSA.

Broncos management could thus soon be breathing a collective sigh of relief, as the only talent behind starter C.J. Anderson without Hillman on the roster is third-year man Juwan Thompson and practice squad back Kapri Bibbs.

Financial terms of any Hillman deal have not been disclosed, but there’s no doubt that he is a better option behind Anderson than both Thompson and Bibbs. He ran for 863 yards and seven touchdowns last season and though he has proven to be injury-prone, that may be a sacrifice that Denver is willing to take in this case.

On top of that, it’s looking like Denver may be forced to go with a run-first offense in 2016 assuming that a deal for Colin Kaepernick or any other quarterback isn’t made. Veteran Mark Sanchez and inexperienced Trevor Siemian are the only quarterbacks on the roster right now and aren’t anywhere close to the level of the recently retired Peyton Manning, so coach Gary Kubiak may end up relying on his running backs to carry the load.

Thus, if that turns out to be the case, bringing back Ronnie Hillman would not be the worst thing in the world for Denver to do.
