Russell Okung signs with Denver Broncos

Free agent offensive tackle Russell Okung has signed a five-year deal with the Denver Broncos that could be worth as much as $12 million a year, with a base amount of $10.6 million. Okung’s deal was reported on Twitter by NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport and ESPN’s Josina Anderson.

Okung, 28, had spent the first six seasons of his career with the Seattle Seahawks, who drafted him sixth overall out of Oklahoma State in 2010. Okung made a Pro Bowl in 2012 and won a Super Bowl with Seattle and proved to be serviceable, but also had problems staying healthy. Thus, the amount of money that Denver shelled out could be viewed as an overpay in the eyes of some.

But Okung is still an upgrade over Ryan Clady, who missed all of 2015 with a torn ACL and is likely on his way out of the Mile High City now that Okung is aboard. It’s a big risk but knowing Russell Okung, the chance is worth taking.
