San Diego Chargers open to dealing No. 3 pick

The San Diego Chargers hold the No. 3 overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, the highest pick they’ve had in more than 10 years, but don’t be shocked if that pick is traded. According to a report from Michael Gehlken of The San Diego Union-Tribune, GM Tom Telesco could be open to dealing the pick.

Now, though having a Top 5 pick and subsequently trading it could be viewed as a classic case of looking a gift horse in the mouth, consider some factors. The last time the Chargers had a pick this high was in 2004, when they held the No. 1 overall pick, and they ended up drafting quarterback Eli Manning before trading him to the Giants for the No. 4 pick that was used on Philip Rivers due to Manning’s not wanting to play in San Diego. In another instance, the No. 1 pick was traded from San Diego to Atlanta in 2001, when Michael Vick went first overall.

And then, there’s this year’s class. Ole Miss tackle Laremy Tunsil is sure to go first overall to the Tennessee Titans and the Cleveland Browns are sure to take a quarterback, so who does that leave the Chargers taking? Cornerback Jalen Ramsey? Defensive lineman Joey Bosa? The possibilities are endless.
