SEC Twitter account gets hacked

Everyone seems to love and appreciate the digital age we live in today, but every now and then, technology has its downfalls. Unfortunately for the Southeastern Conference, one of the downsides of social media struck today.

On Saturday morning, the SEC Twitter account began tweeting out sexually explicit images of barely clothed women.

It didn’t take long for the SEC to become aware that its Twitter account was hacked, and a statement followed shortly after.

“We became aware of it when we saw some retweets,” SEC spokesman Herb Vincent said in a statement, via ESPN.com. “The images were removed immediately, our password changed and we notified Twitter. We will, of course, continue to monitor the account closely today.”

At least there is some silver lining, since the SEC didn’t have to deal with a death hoax as was the case when the NFL’s account was hacked earlier this year.
