South Carolina LB Skai Moore having back surgery, redshirting 2016 season

The South Carolina Gamecocks are looking to turn things around after finishing the 2015 season with a 3-9 record. Will Muschamp has taken over the program, but he will be without a big player for his defense as Skai Moore will miss the 2016 season.

James Crepea of al.com reported that Muschamp said Moore will take a redshirt for this season after a herniated disk in his back didn’t heal correctly. He is scheduled to have surgery on the injury on Friday.

The rising senior was a big member of the Gamecocks’ defense last season. Losing him will be a big blow for Muschamp as he tries to make an immediate impact in his first head coaching job since being fired from Florida in 2014.

During the 2015 season, Skai Moore was the team’s leading tackler, locking down 110 tackles, 6.5 for loss, two sacks, four interceptions, and three forced fumbles.
