Steve Smith might quit football after catching 1,000th pass

Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Steve Smith Sr. is dangerously close to joining an elite club in the NFL and once he gets there, he may just hang up his cleats forever.  Smith is just a few catches shy of becoming the 14th player in NFL history to record 1,000 receptions.

He currently has 961 on his career and told ESPN that he might just quit once he adds his name to the historic club.

One thousand receptions. That’s why, to be honest,” Smith said about why he decided to return for one more season. “Why not? You have to have something to strive for. I may catch that [1,000th pass] in my uniform, get in my car and go home. Straight from there, drive all the way from M&T Bank [Stadium] straight to Charlotte, one shot.”

Steve Smith played seven games during the 2015 season before tearing his Achilles. He likely would have broken 1,000 reception mark had his season not got cut short.
