Texas A&M lands Oregon transfer Kirk Merritt

Texas A&M’s 2016 did not get off to a great start after they lost a number of talented players to transfer.

However, they will now look to improve in the coming years after landing a transfer of their own in the form of former Oregon wide receiver Kirk Merritt.

Merritt confirmed that he would be seeking a transfer from Oregon last month and on Friday, he announced he was transferring to Texas A&M to continue his collegiate career. Head coach Kevin Sumlin seemed pretty happy about the team landing a talented player like him.

Kirk Merritt was a four-star member of the Ducks’ 2015 recruiting class, but he played a minimal role for the team last season. Playing time was likely the biggest issue for him to leave Eugene.

Last year, he only caught five passes for 61 yards during the 2015 season. He will have to sit out the 2016 season due to NCAA transfer rules, but would have three years of eligibility starting in 2017.
