Texas A&M WR coach disciplined for Twitter rant

Last week, the Texas A&M football program had a series of unfortunate events after five-star quarterback Tate Martell de-committed from the program. As a result of Martell’s decision, Texas A&M wide receivers coach Aaron Moorehead went on Twitter and delivered a bone-headed rant.

That rant turned off a four-star and five-star wide receiver, who said the comments have led to them no longer considering A&M.

As you would expect, Texas A&M head coach Kevin Sumlin wasn’t too pleased with the developments and actions of one of his assistants. On Monday, Sumlin released a statement saying Moorehead’s actions reflected poorly on the program and that the receivers coach would receive internal discipline for his actions.

“Last week, one of our assistant coaches, Aaron Moorehead, abused the privilege of social media and the result reflected poorly on Aaron, on our football program and on Texas A&M. He has apologized publicly and privately for his actions and I am confident that he understands the expectations moving forward,” Sumlin said in the statement.

“However, there are consequences for actions and Aaron has been disciplined and the details will remain private. We will use this as a learning tool for all of our coaches, staff and student-athletes, and we are now moving forward as a program.”

Moorehead has not tweeted since sending out an apology for his actions.

Kevin Sumlin has to be pleased about that.
