Texas State hires James Madison’s Everett Withers as new HC

The Texas State Bobcats have had some success since moving up to the FBS in 2012. The team has gone 33-37, with a 6-6 season in 2013 and a 7-5 season in 2014.

However, the team went 3-9 in 2015 and missed their chance to get to a bowl game. Head coach Dennis Franchione announced his retirement just a few weeks ago and the Bobcats have now found their replacement.

The team announced Wednesday night that they had hired James Madison head coach Everett Withers as their new head coach.

Withers had a ton of success leading the Dukes the last two seasons. He led them to two straight nine-win seasons and appearances in the FCS playoffs in both years.

The Dukes also won the Colonial Athletic Association conference championship this year before losing in the second round of the playoffs to Colgate.

Withers has experience in the FBS as he led North Carolina to a 7-6 season in 2011. He should be able to have a good bit of success with the Bobcats.
