Tyler Eifert to undergo ankle surgery

On January 31, Cincinnati Bengals star tight end Tyler Eifert exited the Pro Bowl with a walking boot on his left ankle. At the time, many were hopeful that the injury was only minor, as the initial diagnosis and recovery time looked promising.

Four months later, it’s clear that the ankle injury was more serious than previously thought.

Per what The Enquirer was told by numerous league sources, Eifert is set to undergo what has been called a “minimal procedure” on his left ankle in the near future.

The 25-year-old tight end has been given an estimated three month recovery time. This will likely leave him falling slightly behind, as the Bengals are planning upon opening training camp in the last week of July.

It’s no wonder that the Bengals exercised his fifth-year option on April 13. Eifert had a stellar 13-game season last year, catching 52 passes for 615 yards and finished out the season with 13 touchdowns. He is expected to have just as much of an impact this year despite the injury, and currently stands as one of the best tight ends in the NFL.
