‘Voice of the Blue Devils’ Bob Harris to retire after 2016-17 season

If you have been a fan of Duke basketball at any point over the last four decades, their radio broadcasts will begin to sound much different starting in 2017. It was announced on Tuesday that long-time Blue Devil broadcaster Bob Harris will retire after the upcoming season.

Harris has been known as the “voice of the Blue Devils” for the last 40 years and it is going to be an emotional time once he makes his final call with the team.

Head coach Mike Krzyzewski released a statement about Harris’s decision to retire in the near future.

“His unwavering passion for Duke came through each and every broadcast over the past four decades,” Krzyzewski said. “Without a doubt, Bob has produced some of the greatest calls in Duke history, if not all of sports, during that time.

“Certainly, we will miss Bob after this season ends, but we are very thankful we have had such a long run together.”

During his career with the Blue Devils, Bob Harris, who also calls football for the school, has called more than 1,300 Duke basketball games, including all five of their national championship wins and 13 Final Four appearances.

Harris could not have picked a better season to call his final. The Blue Devils are already the top team in the country by many media outlets as they have a number returning star players as well as having the top recruiting class in the nation.
