WWE wants Kurt Angle, others for brand split

We are just a month away from the WWE brand split and Smackdown going live on Tuesday nights and some would say that the company’s roster is pretty light. Many experts wouldn’t disagree with you as it looks like the company wants to bring back veteran Kurt Angle among others to fill roster slots over the next few weeks.

Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Newsletter reported earlier this week that they are calling “40+ year old guys” to help fill slots on the roster.

This isn’t to say that the company is looking to bring in older guys that have made a name for themselves elsewhere. In fact, Anthony DiMoro of Forbes reported that names like Angle, Jeff Hardy and even Goldberg have been tossed around backstage as of late.

Many believed that the company would go with newer guys like Shinsuke Nakamura, Austin Aries and Samoa Joe, all NXT guys are who are ready for the main roster. However, many others also believed a raid on the developmental brand would essentially kill the hottest thing going on the WWE Network right now.

Bringing back veterans like Kurt Angle, Shelton Benjamain, John Morrison and Rey Mysterio, who have made it in TNA and Lucha Underground respectively in the last few years, would make a ton of sense. These names are already recognizable with the WWE crowd and it would behoove them to bring them in to help fill spots while they build up more stars on the developmental field.

It could also make for a pretty interesting feud like “Old School vs New Era,” or something that effect. The most intriguing part of this situation is that WWE’s roster rejuvenation could begin as early as tonight’s Money in the Bank pay-per-view event with a surprise seventh entrant in the show’s premier ladder match.
