Doobie & The Goats – Athens’ Hottest Band

Deep into Georgia Bulldog football season, a group of young Athens, Georgia musicians got together for a meeting that would change their college careers.

Brothers in Phi Gamma Delta (Fiji) fraternity at the University of Georgia, Austin Dubois, McClain Cummins, Tommy Burress, Charlie Burress, Jacob Fucetola, and Connor Henderson formed Doobie & The Goats.

After several months of preliminary conversations, brainstorming, and practicing, the 6-man cover band took Athens by storm. Playing only 2 shows before this month, the band saw a steady increase in demand for their music late into the semester.

This April, Doobie & The Goats have racked up an impressive 8 gigs between fraternity events, sorority functions, and popular Athens’ bars such as Bar South, Generals, Whiskey Bent, and SandBar.

Likely their most impressive showing was a 2-hour set for Zeta Tau Alpha’s parents’ weekend event at Athens’ renowned brewery, Terrapin Beer Company. This group of delighted patrons greeted the band with cheers and open arms.

A few beers deep, several folks fulfilled the day’s quota of stereotypical “Free Bird” chants. Little did they know, these musicians are talented enough to play even the toughest of songs. Blown away, the crowd roared as the band performed a lights-out rendition of the Lynyrd Skynyrd classic.

Doobie & The Goats also pride themselves on covers such as the Eagles’ Hotel California, The Allman Brothers Band’s Ramblin’ Man, and Peter Frampton’s Show Me The Way.

Contributing to an already stellar tradition of Athens music, Doobie & The Goats are on the rise and only getting better. Make sure to catch them at their last gig of the semester this coming Saturday, May 2nd at Bar South to end your school year on a groovy note.
