New Missouri AD wants to renew Border War

When the Missouri Tigers left the Big 12 for the SEC, the longstanding “Border War” rivalry with the Kansas Jayhawks was no more. However, with a new athletic director in Mack Rhoades taking over at Mizzou, there is some new hope that the rivalry could be renewed.

In an interview with FOX Sports Kansas City, Rhoades commented on the Border War and was optimistic that the Tigers and Jayhawks could meet on the field once again.

“Hopefully, in the future, we can find a way to come together and play, because I think it’s good for certainly his fans, our fans, and most importantly, our coaches and our student-athletes,” Rhoades said. “So, you know, there (are) certainly no promises, but the hope was we can have some positive discussion in the future.

“I just think the biggest losers in all of it are the fans and the student-athletes and the coaches. And maybe, sometimes, we all — including myself — lose sight of that. And I think we need to remember that. And again, hopefully, we would find a way where we could resume playing each other here in the future.”

Much like the Texas A&M-Texas rivalry that was put on hold after conference realignment, the Border War was great for the players, universities and the fans.

Where there is a will, there is a way, so we will have to see if the two sides can reach an agreement to bring the rivalry back.
