The 4-0 Ohio State Buckeyes have a big game tomorrow when they travel to Bloomington to take on the 4-0 Indiana Hoosiers and though the Buckeyes are 21-point favorites, one of their own thinks that Indiana will pull off the victory.
That man is beat writer Doug Lesmerises of Cleveland.com, and his pick for the game was as follows:
Indiana 38, Ohio State 36.
This is more about Ohio State than Indiana. Before the season I picked the Buckeyes to lose a regular-season game you didn’t expect on their way to repeating as national champions. After watching how this season has unfolded, this is the best chance for that.
I think Ohio State finding itself last week wasn’t quite true. The Buckeyes looked better than in their 20-13 win over Northern Illinois, but Western Michigan, in a 26-point loss, made a few key mistakes that helped Ohio State. This Indiana offense is significantly better than that. While the Indiana defense has looked terrible, some pressure on the OSU offense, a few well-timed risks and some OSU mistakes and you have a home team with a shot.
Lesmerises isn’t far off with his prediction. I myself put Ohio State as the No. 1 team on upset watch in this week’s picks for such. Indiana is off to its best start since 2010, has the privilege of playing the defending national champions at home, and Buckeyes quarterback Cardale Jones has not performed consistently enough to make this game a lock for Ohio State.
More importantly, the last time these teams faced each other in Bloomington, in coach Urban Meyer’s first season in 2012, Ohio State barely escaped with a 52-49 victory. Thus, the stage is set for an upset, and it’s up to Ohio State to weather the storm so the team can prove that it is indeed capable of defending its championship.
