Baker Mayfield almost quit football for video games

Oklahoma Sooners quarterback Baker Mayfield is a very interesting individual.

Not only is the Texas Tech transfer a promising talent under center, he is also known for his impressive dance moves. There is another side of Mayfield that the world is getting to know now, too.

In a recent interview, Mayfield revealed that he is such an avid gamer that he nearly quit sports in high school to play video games.

Seriously.

“A lot of people don’t know this, but I almost quit sports in high school to play video games—which is the nerd coming out in me,” Mayfield said, via Campus Rush. “Sometimes I like to rekindle that fire.”

While Mayfield is now focusing on football, his teammate, center Ty Darlington, makes it clear that the signal-caller is still a fan of hitting the sticks.

“You get on the mic with him and you hear him talking trash to random 6-year-olds,” Darlington says. “The way he talks about video games, he’s on another level.”

Mayfield brings that same passion to the football field and it is part of what makes him so much fun to wash.

Whether he could have exceled as a “pro gamer” we will never know, but one thing is for sure: we are glad that Baker Mayfield chose football because he is one of the most interesting men in the nation.
