ULM QB Daniel Fitzwater passes away at 20

Tragedy struck the college football world this morning as University of Lousiana-Monroe quarterback Daniel Fitzwater passed away abruptly Saturday morning. Fitzwater was just 20 years old.

The university announced Fitzwater’s passing via a press release, which was reported by John Taylor of NBC Sports’ College Football Talk. No cause of death has been announced.

“The coaching staff and team are deeply saddened by the loss of a great person in Daniel,” said ULM head coach Todd Berry in a statement. “Our thoughts and prayers are with Daniel’s family.”

“The ULM family is saddened to learn of Daniel’s death,” Dr. Nick J. Bruno, ULM president, said. “Our deepest sympathies and prayers go out to his family during this difficult time.”

Fitzwater was a JUCO walk-on last spring and was held out of the early games of the season as he recovered from a knee injury. He is survived by his parents, two brothers and a sister.

Campus Sports sends its sincerest condolences to Fitzwater’s family and the UL-Monroe community.

  1. First off, condolences to the family, friends and team mates of Daniel. To most of the rest of you, it is beyond sad, it is sickening to see the level you have driven this post to, thinking not of the bereaved, not of yourselves but changing the entire direction of the comments on a lost young man. Most of you have turned this stream into an attack on a person or persons aside from the affected family of a lost loved one. You are worse than Allison, far worse. While her comment redirected focus, your comments were like a pack of sharks, inflicted spewed insults to people you don’t know. You don’t have respect for yourselves and surely have none for the bereaved. You make me sick but unfortunately you are the common illness of our time, disrespectdul, uncaring selfish. I pray that each of you take a look in the mirror and see if you even know yourselves anymore. If you are the voices of a just America, God help us all.

  2. I knew this gentleman & I believe y’all are all petty to talk about Snickers, jokes, and other nonsense. None of you will ever know what an awesome man Daniel was. His spirit will forever live on. If you are not here to share sympathy of any kind, please excuse yourself from this post…
