Auburn wide receiver Duke Williams has certainly ran into a ton of trouble while with the university. From injuries to suspensions, Williams hasn’t had the career most thought he would have being a top recruit out of junior college.
Now it seems as though all his troubles has led to the ultimate punishment. According to a press release by the Tigers’ official website, Williams was released from the program late Monday night.
Head coach Gus Malzahn talked about giving Williams more than enough chances to show that he belonged with the program.
“When individuals fail to meet the expectations of our program, there has to be consequences,” Malzahn said. “I gave D’haquille the chance to prove himself. I am disappointed that it did not work out.”
Williams has provided a big boost for the Tigers since his arrival. In 2014, he caught 47 passes for 730 yards and five touchdowns and had caught 12 passes for 147 yards and a touchdown this year.
All of those accolades could not outweigh his problems off the field and he has now paid the biggest price for it. Hopefully Williams can turn things around and get another chance somewhere else.
