Ole Miss LB C.J. Johnson to undergo surgery

Ole Miss Rebels starting linebacker C.J. Johnson announced today that he would be undergoing surgery, but did not specify for what. Johnson’s announcement came via a Facebook post.

Coach Hugh Freeze is expected to elaborate on Johnson’s injury further at some point today, but there’s no denying how important is Johnson is to the team. The senior has posted 154 tackles (24 for a loss) and 11.5 sacks to go with three interceptions and a forced fumble in his tenure with the Rebels.

His loss will certainly be felt, as Ole Miss suffered a devastating loss to Florida last weekend and dropped from No. 3 to No. 14 in the standings. The Rebels have an easier matchup this weekend against the winless New Mexico State Aggies, but here’s hoping that Johnson is only out for a short amount of time so that he can get back on the field and help his team.

Kickoff against NMSU is slated for 12 p.m. ET in Oxford.
