Top performers and honorees from Week 5

RB Peyton Barber, Auburn

28 carries, 147 yards, 5 TD

The first Auburn player to make the list earned a first place ranking among Week 5 performers due to his obvious contributions against San Jose State, in which Auburn still managed to struggle, but won 35-21.

RB Ezekiel Elliott, Ohio State

23 carries, 274 yards, 3 TD

After so much hype surrounded the Buckeyes in the preseason, Ohio State couldn’t shake off Indiana in Bloomington, but behind Zeke’s rushing performance and Cardale’s 245 passing yards, the Buckeyes escaped another possibility of an embarrassing outcome.

If the Buckeyes repeat their questionable performance with Maryland in Week 6, at least they’ll do it at The Shoe.

WR KaVontae Turpin, TCU

6 receptions, 138 yards, 4 TD

RB Larry Rose III, New Mexico State

21 carries, 260 yards, 3 TD

QB Greg Ward, Jr., Houston

455 total yards, 3 rushing TD

Michigan Defense @ Maryland

Since losing their season opener, Michigan has won four straight heading into a Week 6 meeting with undefeated Northwestern, who’s also experienced the sweet smell of success by defeating Stanford in their season opener.

And although Michigan’s starting to produce a storyline on offense, the Wolverines defense has restricted opponents to a thin portion of yards and even rank higher in some categories than the highly-touted defense of Alabama.

vs. Maryland: 0 points, 105 total yards; held Maryland to seven first downs and 1-for-18 on third downs

RB Leonard Fournette, Louisiana State

Many readers might wonder why Fournette’s an honorable mention this week, but since owning a top tier performance spot in consecutive weeks – and it’s not to say Fournette’s stock is dropping – the frontrunner for the Heisman scooted a few spots to give recognition to other FBS Division-I athletes.

26 carries, 233 yards, 3 TD

WR Michael Thomas, Southern Mississippi

7 receptions, 155 yards, 3 TD

QB Trevone Boykin, Texas Christian

332 passing yards, 5 TD

RB Michael Gordon, Arkansas State

26 carries, 221 yards, 3 TD
