UFC strawweight contender Paige VanZant is one of the most popular young stars in mixed martial arts.
With her appealing style and marketable personality and looks, VanZant seems destined for stardom. VanZant is currently scheduled to face Joanne Calderwood in December which could ultimately lead to a title shot.
VanZant will enter the bout on a four-fight winning streak and as the No. 6 woman in her weight class.
It seems inevitable that VanZant will one day fight for the UFC title and she believes that current champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk will be the woman she faces when her time comes.
“If I look at Joanna, of course I feel a certain way about her, because she has the belt,” Van Zant said, via MMAjunkie.com. “She has something I want. I understand why I get some of the negative feedback from some of the strawweights because I am where they’d like to be. I’m just so blessed right now. I’m not going to take any of these things personally because they don’t know me personally.
“[Jedrzejczyk is] a great fighter; I think she’s really good. Of course, we’re seeing a lot of other strawweights with a lot of talent. She’s going to have top competition. But I do think that she will be the person who stays with the title until I get there.”
VanZant may still have some time until she fights for the title, but she has been able to continue pushing forward and earning the wins to put her in the position she wants to be.
While others may be critical of VanZant and believe she is being pushed because of factors other than her skill set, she has been able to prove she belongs at the top of her weight class.
The sky seems to be the limit for VanZant and she is proving her head is exactly where it needs to be if she wants to achieve UFC gold.
