The Ohio State Buckeyes improved to 6-0 this past week against the Maryland Terrapins and looked much better than they had over the past few weeks. Urban Meyer has to be very happy with his team and Ezekiel Elliott is beginning to heat up again. He took to his personal Twitter account to shout out star defensive end Joey Bosa and say that he believes Bosa is held on each and every play.
Bosa has had a decent season for the Buckeyes and has recorded 19 tackles, 0.5 sacks and three defensed passes so far this season. Those numbers don’t make him the “most feared player” in college football, however, but he is definitely a playmaker and will be a key for the Ohio State defense moving forward.
Elliott is more than welcome to have his own opinions about his teammates, but claiming that he gets held on every play is obviously an overstatement. He may get held on 50 percent or less of his pass rushes, but even that number would be pushing it.
Ohio State is obviously excited about their win this past week, but Bosa simply hasn’t been as good as he was expected to be. The lack of pass rush has been a bit disappointing for the Buckeyes after seeing him rack up 13.5 sacks last season. Bosa has to figure out how to start getting to the quarterback and making excuses that he is “being held every play” simply isn’t true.
Expect to see Bosa pick things up over the next few weeks and to begin showing why he was considered to be one of the top defensive players in college football ahead of the season.
If Ohio State wants to win back-to-back titles, they will need both Elliott and Bosa to be two of the most feared players in the nation. Elliott already has that role down but Bosa has to pick his game up and live up to that hype.
