Report: Steve Spurrier to retire immediately

Well, here is some interesting news late in the night.

While most of the world was preparing for tonight’s Monday Night Football matchup between the Pittsburgh Steelers and San Diego Chargers, Thayer Evans of Sports Illustrated took to Twitter to pass along a report that South Carolina Gamecocks head coach Steve Spurrier is set to retire.

Earlier this summer, Spurrier had squashed retirement rumors and said he would continue to coach the Gamecocks for the foreseeable future.

That does not seem to be the case anymore, however, with the Gamecocks off to a lackluster 2-4 record and most recently coming off of a 45-24 loss to the LSU Tigers last weekend.

This is a very fluid situation with little information, so Campus Sports will update you when more insight is available.

If the report is true, it ends a legendary career and Spurrier, one of the most entertaining men in college football, will be missed.
