After multiple alcohol related incidents and a subpar 3-2 start to the season, Steve Sarkisian was fired as head football coach at USC today. Soon after announcement of his firing, it was revealed that Sarkisian had checked himself into a residential treatment facility.
After appearing drunk on stage at a pep rally before the start of the season, it was reported that Sarkisian showed up noticeably intoxicated to a team meeting Sunday.
Later in the day USC Athletic Director announced the school had asked its coach to take an indefinite leave of absence before firing him a day later.
After being considered a possible contender for the National Championship, the Trojans have started 3-2, losing to Sarkisian’s former school Washington on Thursday night. Currently unranked, they were ranked at high at 6th this season.
Clay Helton will take over as interim head coach, he was previously offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for the team.
