College basketball is back.
And on the verge of this new season, it seems as if there isn’t a team in the country that is standing out that much more than another as the nations best.
Unlike previous years where there is often an obvious choice for the top team in October, Gary Parrish of CBS Sports thinks this year’s list has four teams deserving of the nod.
But, because Roy Williams and his Tarheels seem to have their roster in tact heading into the start of the year, Parish has tabbed North Carolina as this preseasons No. 1 team over Kansas, Kentucky and Maryland.
Kentucky and Kansas both have eligibility issues surrounding some of their more talented big men and Maryland hasn’t proven they can truly dominate against the nation’s best just yet.
With that being said, all four of these teams are right in the mix if a couple players are cleared and the Terps can win some big non-conference games in November and December.
Until then, though, Parrish’s top four teams are North Carolina, Kentucky, Kansas and Maryland—in that order.
