Fresh off the announcement of South Carolina head coach Steve Spurrier’s early retirement, the Gamecocks received some rather encouraging news on Tuesday morning.
Darius Whitfield, one of the most versatile linemen in Alabama prep football, committed to South Carolina putting an end to a rather busy recruiting process for the 6-foot-2, 270-pound two-way star.
The report comes from Scout.com.
As a junior, Whitfield led his high school—St. Pauls Episcopal School—to a state championship and became one of the top recruits in the state shortly after.
The four-star recruit had offers from Florida, Florida State, Ole Miss, Miami (Fl.), LSU, Louisville, Mississippi State, Missouri, and Tennessee. Alabama did not offer.
