It was reported last week that star Kentucky freshman Skal Labissiere was going under a NCAA review to determine if he would be eligible once the season rolled around. While no results have come from the review, head Kentucky basketball coach, John Calipari, is fairly confident that Labissiere will be able to play.
“Everything is good to go,” Calipari told The Courier-Journal before referring back to the school’s policy not to comment on a player’s eligibility until the first game. “Every year we’ve been here, players go through the review. You won’t believe this: it’s always the best players that get the review.”
It seemed as though Calipari began to get annoyed with what was being asked. He began to respond with questions of his own, wanting to find out where the rumors first came about.
“I think my team will be fine and you guys will figure it out when we go out there the first game,” he said Wednesday. “How did this become such a huge (deal)? This became like a firestorm. Where did this come from? Feel real good what my team’s going to look like on the first day.”
Calipari seems pretty confident that one of the key players for his team this year will be able to play. If his team wants to get back to the Final Four and have another great season like in 2014-15, Labissiere is going to be a big part of that.
