Longhorns mascot Bevo XIV to retiring due to cancer

Bevo XIV, the longtime Texas Longhorns mascot, will be retired immediately according to the school. UT announced on its athletic department’s website.

Bevo XIV was diagnosed with Bovine Leukemia Virus shortly after Texas’ victory over Oklahoma in the AT&T Red River Showdown on Saturday. Bevo XIV started his tenure in 2004, and was the team’s mascot in their National Championship season in 2005.

It was already planned that Bevo XIV would retire in 2016. The school added that the search for Bevo XV, ‘will begin immediately.’
