Steve Sarkisian learned of firing from friends, texts

Yesterday during the USC Trojans weekly press conference, athletic director Pat Haden said that he has not spoken with former head coach Steve Sarkisian since he was fired by the university.

In fact, Haden said that he never spoke directly to Sarksian about the firing because he could not get in touch with the former head coach.

As it turns out, Sarkisian was on a flight heading to a treatment facility so he was unavailable by phone.

According to ESPN’s Joe Schad, it was not until Sarkisian landed that he learned he had been removed from his position. Sarkisian learned of his firing from friends, family and text messages.

Steve Sarkisian learned he had been fired when he read an e-mail and text messages from friends expressing sympathy.

Steve Sarkisian was fired by USC for cause and the school believes it won’t have to pay the remaining 3+ years of his five-year deal

It is an unfortunate way to learn you have been fired, but Sarkisian likely had to know the move was coming.

Now, he will spend at least thirty days in a treatment facility as he attempts to fight his demons and better his life off the field. Hopefully Sarkisian will be successful and he can one day return to coaching with a clear mind and better health.
