When you have a job opening like the USC Trojans head coaching gig, you can guarantee there will be a number of high-profile candidates linked to the positions.
On Saturday morning, ESPN College GameDay hosts added two new names to that list: St. Louis Rams head coach Jeff Fisher and Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin.
Fisher was named by Lee Corso as a man the Trojans should pursue. He is a USC alum, so it’s not out of the ordinary that he was named.
Tomlin, however, is a bit more surprising.
Not only does he have no direct connections to the USC program, he seems to be quite comfortable in Pittsburgh — and for good reason. If there is one thing we know about the pro program in the Steel City it is that they are loyal to their coaches.
Whether any of those two coaches ever becomes a true candidate for the job remains to be seen, but USC fans better get used to hearing NFL coaches names in the discussion.
It won’t be long until Jack Del Rio’s name gets dropped, too.
