After turning in an all world performance Saturday against Texas A&M, ‘Bama freshman cornerback Minkah Fitzpatrick was named Walter Camp National Defensive Player of the Week. Alabama beat A&M 41-23 in College Station.

In addition, Fitzpatrick became the first freshman in Crimson Tide history to return 2 interceptions for touchdowns, picking off Kyle Allen twice. The first was returned 33 yards in the first quarter and the second went for 55 yards in the fourth, giving Alabama a 41-23 lead.

Fitzpatrick isn’t some flash in the pan either, through 7 games he is fifth on the team in tackles with 24 with three for a loss and two sacks. Among non-defensive lineman he leads the squad with 6 passes broken up, and has 3 touchdowns.

Apart from the two pick-sixes, Fitzpatrick blocked and recovered a punt for a TD.
