High school player dies from in-game injury, complained of dizziness in huddle

There is another sad story to report from the world of high school football.

Cam’ron Matthews, a junior football player from Alto High School in Texas, passed away over the weekend as a result of an injury suffered in a game, according to a report from ABC News.

To make the story even more tragic, Matthews reportedly complained to his teammates about dizziness while he was in the huddle.

Matthews is remembered as being a great kid on and off the field.

“When you have your own kids and you want them to emulate someone and follow in their footsteps, Cam’ron was a perfect example of that. He was a great kid in the classroom, unbelievable athlete, but more importantly just a great, great kid,” Alto superintendent Kerry Birdwell said.

It is just the latest death in high school football in the recent months, despite a heightened awareness of player safety.

It is very unfortunate to see these incidents continuing to happen and hopefully we will one day be in  place where everything is safer for the athletes.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Matthews’ friends and family during this difficult and tragic time.
