The Georgia Bulldog nation was hit with the news of their live mascot, Uga, retiring midseason. Uga IX has been in place since the death of Uga VII in 2011.
According to College Football Talk, the Bulldogs released a statement about the English Bulldog being pulled off the sidelines immediately and a new mascot will debut in just under a month. Russ wilol, the bulldog that was named Uga IX, was honored in the statement.
“Uga is cherished by University of Georgia fans worldwide,” said president Jere W. Morehead in a statement. “We are grateful for Russ’s dedicated service, and we look forward to welcoming Que as our new mascot.”
Que, who Russ served as a mentor to, will debut as Uga X on November 21 when they host Georgia Southern.
“We are thrilled to have Que join our long line of mascots and he has already proven to be up to the task of serving as our official mascot,” athletic director Greg McGarity said. “We tip our cap to Russ, who served admirably as UGA IX and has been a great mentor to Que, UGA X.”
