4-star SG Tyson Carter commits to Mississippi State

Class of 2016 four-star shooting guard Tyson Carter, out of Mississippi’s Starkville Academy, has chosen to remain close to home in committing to the Mississippi State Bulldogs. Robby Donoho of local CBS outlet WCBI reported Carter’s decision.

Carter picked Mississippi State over offers from Memphis, Miami and Arizona State. His father, Greg, also played basketball for the Bulldogs.

Thus continues the strong start for Ben Howland, who continues to bring in top recruits despite not yet having coached a game in Starkville. The Bulldogs also have four-star talents in guards Lamar Peters and Eli Wright set to join the team, so Mississippi State is definitely on the right path to making the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2009.

He may not suit up for the team for another year, but there’s no doubt that Carter is going to become an immediate impact player once he arrives on campus.

Mississippi State opens the Howland Era against the Big Sky’s Eastern Washington Eagles at Humphrey Coliseum on November 13.
