Jared Goff has been rising up the draft boards throughout the entire 2015 season, although he did lose some of his hype due to his five interception game. He still is viewed as a top draft pick in the 2016 NFL Draft and MMQB analyst Andy Benoit thinks that he projects to stardom at the next level.
“It was exciting when this happened with Goff. Watching him carve the Cougars, the phrase ‘similarities to Andrew Luck’ went in my notes multiple times. Unaware of the rest of the college football landscape, I can’t say whether Goff deserves to be the first pick in next year’s draft. But I can say that having studied almost every snap of each NFL quarterback this season, Goff irrefutably projects to stardom. So before the tedium of the combine and pro days and 24/7 draft coverage starts to muddy the picture, here’s the breakdown of Goff’s pro prospects based solely on what actually matters: his film,” Benoit wrote.
Those words are exceptionally high praise for the young quarterback. Goff has been taking the big steps forward that scouts said he would need to in order to make it big and he is beginning to make something for himself.
This season for the Golden Bears, Goff has completed 65.5 percent of his passes for 2,265 yards, 20 touchdowns and nine interceptions. Those are the kind of numbers that NFL quarterback prospects put up, although the interception number might be a bit high. He has still shown enough to make a team draft him as the top quarterback in the 2016 class.
At 6-foot-4 and 215 pounds, Goff is the ideal size for a quarterback coming out of college into the NFL as well.
Looking ahead at this years NFL Draft, there aren’t a ton of quarterbacks that could be taken over him. Connor Cook is one of them, but many view Goff as being the better all-around player.
He has put himself in the perfect position to make a lot of money and be a very high draft pick and the sky is the limit for him throughout the remainder of the 2015 college football season.
