The Syracuse Orange take on the Florida State Seminoles in Tallahassee on Saturday, which means having to deal with the infamous Florida State war chant that, despite being a tradition, can be irritating as all hell. Speaking to reporters for Syracuse.com, Orange defensive back Julian Whigham had nothing but harsh criticism for the chant, going so far as to say, “It makes you want to punch somebody.”
Then, there’s sophomore receiver Steve Ishmael, who hails from North Miami Beach. He grew up with the chant and described it in detail to Nate Mink of Syracuse.com
“You could hear (the chant) on TV all the time,” Ishmael said.
“Most definitely it’s stuck in my head. Just hearing the excitement from the fans just excites me. I love going to away games because once you make a play the crowd is silent. They can’t play the music. “It’s going to be amazing just to watch the horse come out, just watching everything play out.”
Regardless of how one may feel about Florida State’s war chant, it definitely does get irritating and playing at Doak Campbell Stadium, hearing it over and over again could drive Syracuse players bananas. Hopefully, they stay focused and are able to pull off what could be an amazing upset.
Kickoff in Tallahassee is slated for 12 p.m. ET on ABC.
