Florida State quarterback Sean Maguire filled in for injured Everett Golson last Saturday against the Syracuse Orange. In his first start since the game against Clemson last season, Maguire had an impressive day, throwing for 348 yards and three touchdowns, both career highs.
The Seminoles take on the Tigers this weekend in the biggest game of their season.
The team must win if they want to stay in contention for the ACC Atlantic division and both Golson and running back Dalvin Cook should be healthy for the game.
According to The Post and Courier in Tallahassee, Florida State football beat writer Brendan Sonnone talked about the game this weekend.
Sonnone thinks the Seminoles should take another chance on Maguire this weekend.
“Regarding the quarterbacks, I’m of the opinion that FSU needs to roll the dice and go with Maguire. His ability to manage Jimbo Fisher’s complex offense will be extremely valuable in hostile territory, and FSU will need his arm strength to have a real shot of hitting big plays downfield,” Sonnone wrote.
“I’m not sure the Seminoles can regularly sustain drives against Clemson, so chunk plays are a must. Golson, for whatever reason, has struggled on the road this season (passer rating of 122.59) and he hasn’t shown any indication of turning that around. It’s possible FSU sprinkles in two quarterbacks to try and catch Clemson off-guard, but I think Fisher ultimately goes with the guy who can best run his offense. That guy, to me, is Maguire.”
I don’t think taking a chance on a guy who hasn’t really proven himself on the field yet in such a big game is the best idea. This game should be interesting and it will be fun to see who the Seminoles end up going with behind center.
What do you think, Seminole fans? Do you want to go with Golson or should Maguire get one more chance?
