The LSU Tigers' basketball program has reportedly received a commitment from 2016 guard Kieran Hayward from Australia.

LSU Tigers gain commitment from 2016 G Kieran Hayward

The LSU Tigers are known as a football school and the basketball program has not been receiving much national attention. That could very well start changing in the near future.

Ben Simmons was the big recruit that the Tigers got this year and he made an impact in the season opener. Now, they have received a commitment from 2016 guard Kieran Hayward. Scouring the foreign market certainly is a good option for college programs and this could end up being a huge get for LSU.

Hayward is known as a three-point threat, although he has excellent athleticism as well. He is more than capable of playing above the rim and has the shot to make things tough on opposing defenders.

LSU is in desperate need of bringing more scorers into the program, especially with Simmons having the star potential to become an NBA prospect. There is a chance that he could end up making the jump into the NBA following this season, although it is more likely next year. Hayward likely doesn’t have NBA talent, but there is always the chance that the coaching staff can mold him into one.

SEC basketball hasn’t been a very competitive conference over the past few seasons. Kentucky has been the obvious front-runner to win the conference with ease in that period of time.

All of that being said, the Tigers are starting to do some things with their recruiting and could make some noise in the SEC over the next few years.
