Just over two weeks ago, Ohio State quarterback J.T. Barrett was arrested for operating a vehicle while intoxicated. Barrett was subsequently suspended for this past Saturday’s game against Minnesota.
Since his arrest, fans have voiced their opinions and have not been very happy with what happened. The Columbus Dispatch published a few letters that were sent to them in Sunday’s paper and it shows just how upset the fans were with the situation.
I for one am flabbergasted that these fans truly believe that just because he is a football player means he should be able to get away with whatever he wants. Yes, I realize that he didn’t murder or steal or anything of that nature, but he did break the law.
He drove a car while intoxicated, no matter what you may or may not think he was over the legal limit. He was also drinking underage.
So just because he is a football player and was on a bye week he should get to break the law? If this was a third-string defensive tackle that got caught, he probably would have gotten suspended for longer than a game and fans would not have cared about it.
Now, Ohio State fans aren’t the only ones that act this way, especially about their star players, but everyone has to realize that if you break the law, you will pay the price.
Besides, Cardale Jones did a good job and won the game for you guys, keeping you undefeated. Barrett will be back this week and all will be well in the world, as long as Barrett doesn’t decide to break the law again.
