-

Australia native Ben Simmons has become the fourth freshman to be named to the AP preseason All-America team. This is the third straight year a freshman has been selected to the team.

Gonzaga senior Kyle Wiltjer was the leading vote getter, earning 51 votes from the 65 member panel. Georges Niang of Iowa State, Buddy Hield of Oklahoma and Kris Dunn of Providence round out the five members of the first team.

Niang and Hield are also seniors, while Dunn is a junior.

The 6-foot-10 Simmons averaged 28.0 points, 11.9 rebounds and 4.0 assists as a high school senior in Florida. He was considered by many to be the top recruit in the country.
