Report: Texas A&M plans to replace OC Jake Spavital

The Texas A&M Aggies have had to deal with rumors of head coach Kevin Sumlin entertaining other head coaching offers in previous years, but it is another member of the staff who could be on his way out this year.

According to reports, the Aggies are planning to replace offensive coordinator Jake Spavital.

The report comes from GigEm247.

“We’ve been told that Spavital will not be back and the tenures of others on the staff will depend on how A&M finishes up both the season on the field and recruiting,” the report reads.

“The newcomers to the staff over the past couple of years as well as special teams coordinator Jeff Banks are probably the safest. That’s because people have seen improvement the physical play of the receiving corps as well as the coverage and tackling among the defensive backs. The defensive ends have been a strong point and Banks’ special teams have been among the best in the SEC this season.”

Before taking over as offensive coordinator, Spavital had served as the team’s quarterback’s coach.

Unfortunately, the team’s win total has continued to decrease in recent years, so a change may be necessary.
