Woman claims assault by two St. Bonaventure basketball players

A woman is claiming that two members of the St. Bonaventure men’s basketball team assaulted her outside a bar near the university’s campus early Sunday morning, per Aaron Besecker of The Buffalo News.

Per the report, the woman is claiming to have been assaulted in the bar’s parking lot before heading to a hospital to be treated for “a head injury, bruises and abrasions,” but she has not filed a formal complaint.

No charges have been brought forth either and the players have remained anonymous as a result.

A statement from a university official read as follows:

“We are aware of police reports of altercations occurring early Sunday morning in Allegany involving St. Bonaventure students, with one female taken to the hospital, where she was treated and released,” said Tom Missel, director of marketing and media relations. “That’s the only official information we have at this point.

Missel continued: “As far as we know, no charges have been filed. We are attempting to collect information while being careful to not interfere with any police investigations that may be ongoing. We have not received any official requests or inquiries from police at this time. We also have not received any direct information from the victim.

“As always, St. Bonaventure University reserves the right under the Student Code of Conduct to hold our students responsible for behavior on and off campus. We will do our own investigation to determine if any disciplinary action is warranted.”

Needless to say, those two players could soon end up in quite a bit of hot water given the sports world’s recent hard stance on violence against women.
