As we approach the end of the college football season and the start of award season, the PwC SMU Athletic Forum announced a loaded list of semifinalists for this year’s Doak Walker award which goes to the nation’s best running back.
This year, there is no debate over who of the top rushers are, so there were few surprises when the semifinalists were announced.
Guys like Florida State’s Dalvin Cook, Ohio State’s Ezekiel Elliott, Alabama’s Derrick Henry, LSU’s Leonard Fournette and Stanford’s Christian McAffrey all made the cut.
The one name that fans may not recognize on the list is Wyoming’s Brian Hill, who is the only non-Power 5 running back to make the list. Some other names on the list were Utah’s Devontae Booker, Arkansas’ Alex Collins, Oregon’s Royce Freeman, Baylor’s Shock Linwoodand Notre Dame’s C.J. Prosise.
With so many sophomores on the list, we should expect to continue seeing the ground game dominate the collegiate level with some of the most talented backs we have seen in recent memory.
Who do you think should take home the award? Sound off in the comments section below.
