Denzel Nkemdiche’s ‘condition is not life-threatening’

|

Earlier this morning it was reported that Ole Miss Rebels linebacker Denzel Nkemdiche was in the ICU after being found earlier this week when he failed to show up to the team’s practice. There were very few details regarding his condition.

This afternoon, Ole Miss released a statement on the situation that has not provided any clarity to the rumors or speculation around the web.

Rebels head coach Hugh Freeze simply said that Nkemdiche was dealing with a “personal matter.”

“We are going to walk through it with him,” Freeze said. “When issues come up that you need to get through that involve one of our players and anything with their family, we just want to support them and help them through it.”

Dr. Sunday Nkemdiche, Denzel’s father, said that his son is expected to be released from the hospital today.

“Denzel’s condition has improved as of today, and he will remain in the hospital. His well-being is all that matters right now, and we are making sure he receives the highest level of medical care. While his condition is not life-threatening, he will not play this weekend. We thank the Ole Miss family for their concern and encouragement, and we appreciate everyone respecting the family’s privacy during this time,” his father said.

We continue to wish Nkemdiche the best on his road to recovery.
