Back in June, Central Michigan head coach John Bonamego revealed that he was fighting a form of tonsil cancer. Just two months later, Bonamego returned to the field to help lead his team into the 2015 college football season.
Now, just six months after making his cancer announcement, Bonamego had a new announcement to make.
Shortly after informing his team, the 52-year old coach took to Twitter to announce that he was cancer free.
Not only is the coach cancer free, but his Chippewas are also bowl eligible after a win over Kent State earlier this week. Bonamego is in his first year on the sidelines for Central Michigan, and has the most wins for a first-year head coach in school history with six.
He can add to that total with a win in the team’s regular season finale on November 27 against Eastern Michigan.
It shouldn’t be too tough of a task with the Eagles sitting with a 1-10 record on the season.
We here at Campus Sports want to congratulate Bonamego on his successful fight against the dreaded monster known as cancer. For anyone else out there fighting the disease, we wish you nothing but the best and hope for a full recovery.
