The San Francisco 49ers have been struggling this NFL season after being one of the biggest threats in the league just two years ago. Most of their struggles could be placed on the shoulders of former starting quarterback Colin Kaepernick.
Just two weeks ago, the 49ers replaced Kaepernick with Blaine Gabbert, who subsequently led the team to a 17-16 upset win over the Atlanta Falcons. Now it seems that the 49ers are selling the ship on Kaepernick as it was announced that he would be placed on season-ending injured reserve.
There has not been any news of Kaepernick having any previously-known injuries, so this could be a case of the team wanting to eliminate all chances of him playing this year. The 49ers have also promoted former South Carolina quarterback Dylan Thompson off the practice team.
It certainly seems like Kaepernick’s time is up in San Francisco. The only question now is who will replace him?
