The Alabama Crimson Tide have been dominating the Charleston Southern Buccaneers all day long and a lot of their first half success came from defensive back Cyrus Jones. Not only is Jones a great pass defender, but he is the Tide’s best punt returner as well.
In the first half, Jones returned a punt 43 yards for a touchdown, which is impressive enough. But in the second quarter, he made history by doing it again as he took a punt off a bounce and raced 72 yards for the touchdown.
Jones became the first player to return two punts for touchdowns in a game since 1944 when legendary player Harry Gilmer achieved that same stat. There is no way NFL teams can look past Jones as a potential big piece for their special teams.
The Tide lead 49-6 late in the game, so it looks like Jones’ day is done. However, his career certainly isn’t.
