Florida’s Jim McElwain compares his team to frozen dead fish

On Saturday, the Florida Gators got one heck of a fight from the Florida Atlantic Owls at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium. FAU gave Florida all they could handle, before the Gators earned a narrow 20-14 win in overtime.

After the game, head coach Jim McElwain spoke to reporters and — while he was respectful of the Owls and the effort they put forth — he did not hold back when sharing his disappointment in his team for their performance.

Specifically, McElwain said that his team was like “frozen dead fish in a supermarket.”

McElwain was commenting on his offensive line and said that they lose all energy when things go wrong. While describing how the unit “mopes” around, he provided an interesting image.

McElwain on offensive line: "When something bad happens, they mope around." Calls their energy like "dead fish on ice." #Gators

Florida will look to bounce back with a stronger effort next weekend when they host the Florida State Seminoles before going on to participate in the SEC Championship.

For McElwain’s sake and the sanity of Gators fans, let’s hope they at least play like live goldfish in an aquarium.
