2014’s Battle for the Governor’s Cup had many a fireworks both before and during the game, with UK players taunting Louisville fans and players throughout the affair.
Kentucky head coach Mark Stoops admitted after the game their intention was to come out with that sort of attitude. “I wanted that,” Stoops said. “I told them they were coming here to make a difference.”
By all indications leading up to this year’s Cup, the Wildcats will come out with the same sort of attitude. Senior defensive back C.J. Johnson confirmed as much to the Courier-Journal.
“It’s part of a rivalry,” Johnson said. “It makes the game exciting. Anytime you play a rivalry because they’re right down the street it’s like bragging rights. You want to go out and fight, have a dog fight out there. We plan on making it like that this year too because I don’t like them. ”
Should be entertaining if nothing else.
